All students have strengths and weaknesses, and the earlier you address their academic weaknesses the less likely it will become a long-term concern.

ACADEMICS > STUDY SKILLS

DEFINITION

Students with strong study skills are better prepared and retain more of the curriculum. Students who have limited study skills and wing-it tend to be more scattered and have a weak mental template for the subject.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

  • difficulty self-starting
  • feel they study but do not remember
  • when asked about their study skills they don't have an immediate answer that would indicate they have a clear plan (i.e. winging it)
  • when asked how they study differently for each subject, they don't have an immediate answer that would indicate they have a clear plan
  • inefficency, such as students take much longer than you would expect to study

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  1. Determine if your student's organized.
  2. Determine if your student has time management abilities.
  3. Determine if your student knows how to prioritize.
